Fisher-Price Loom

by Phoebe About 25 years ago, Fisher-Price toy company sold a very nice child's loom. This particular one belonged to my mother when she was a girl in the 1980's, and although it was packed away and mostly neglected in Grandma's attic for 15 years or so, it is enjoying a second life in the crafty hands of Sister, who has spent quite a bit of time weaving this winter. It is a rigid heddle loom and the weaving set came with a handheld comb and a trio of shuttles. It is just the right size to make a place mat or a purse, and warping the loom is very simple as the loom is marked with the letters of the alphabet for the thread placement. This week Sister made a striped wool blanket, and I feel very warm and cozy when I snuggle up under it. Has anyone else out there used this loom?

  1. Hi! I used to have this same loom when I was a kid. Unfortunately, my mom did not pack mine away for me, and now I'm looking for something similiar to get my 5 (almost 6) year old daughter. She is interested in knitting/crocheting and all things crafty, and I think she would really like a weaving loom, but I've yet to find anything that seems as kid friendly as the old one from fisher price!

  2. This really is a neat loom. Once in a while you can find a good one for a fair price on eBay... otherwise, it is a step up, but the Cricket Loom from Schacht is rather easy for children to use, too. We have really enjoyed ours a lot.

  4. I am sorry to say I don't have the manual, but I am wondering if I should write a tutorial blog post on how to set it up and get started? It is such a great little loom!

    2. It is on my to-do list! I am still thinking of the best way to do it, but I am planning to start with just the pieces unassembled and move through all the steps to getting it warped and starting to weave. Thanks for asking!

    3. I, too, could use a manual. I have a Loom that is intact with parts but no instruction manual.

    1. I have ours right here in my studio. I really like the Cricket Loom, as a "grown up" version of the Fisher Price one!

  9. I am new to weaving. My mother has passed away almost 10 years now and a good friend of hers called me last year and told me she had a weaving loom my mother had asked her to hang onto for us kids. To my delight this fisher price loom came in the mail but I haven't the slightest idea how to finish off a project. Also are projects limited to the length of the loom? Can I extend the length besides just piecing it and sewing together? My daughter and I are very excited to get started but I am still looking for some answers. Thanks in advance for any and all help.
