Freddie at French Press Knits

by Phoebe
Last year, when Father was busy finishing the drawings for Freddie's Blanket, there were a lot of conversations at our house about what a platypus would wear.  Dresses, shoes, boots, hats, pajamas... what will they wear?  We knew they would wear some slippers to keep their feet warm, and Mother immediately thought of the French Press Slippers by Melynda Bernardi.  They were the perfect slippers to keep Freddie's mother's feet cozy!  Melynda was very kind to allow us permission to reference her slippers throughout the book, and has a beautiful brand new baby of her own, so the timing seemed perfect!

Can you see the French Press Slippers here in the finished version of the illustration?
On to the exciting news- one of Melynda's readers will win a signed copy of Freddie's Blanket this week!  If you are interested in learning more, you can read all about it here!

4-H Fiber Fun Fest this Saturday!

Our first Colorado Freddie's Blanket book signing will be this Saturday from 12-2 at the Larimer County 4-H Fiber Fun Fest.  We will have books and trunk shows at the Brown Sheep booth.  This is a free event with a ton of activities for kids and families!  Here is an article from our paper about it... hope to see some of you there!

Tuesday

if you like to sew...

you might be wondering what this bundle is.

Here is a better view.
That's all I can show you now.
Isn't it pretty?

Stitches West!

by Phoebe
Freddie and I are spending the weekend at Stitches West with Suzoo's Wool Works!  This is our very first Stitches show, and we are really excited about this new wooly adventure!  Soon the hall will be filled with eager shoppers... I hope they as excited to meet as as we are to meet them!

Saturday

He's at it again...

by Phoebe

It looks like Father and Mother are working on some new ideas... does that look like a mouse to you?  It does to me!

Knitmore Girls Podcast

The Knitmore Girls Podcast episode number 138 aired this week- they did an insightful review of Phoebe's Sweater and Freddie's Blanket.  This was their first review of children's books, and it was our first podcast review, so we were in good company!  We start around 33:50, but the whole episode is worth a listen!

P.S. Father says the "sloth" is actually an Australian marsupial possum called a cuscus... find him on page 5 of Freddie's Blanket :)

In which I show and tell my Vogue Knitting Goodies

by Joanna
In a good show of knitterly temperance, I limited myself to purchasing only very-special-unavailable-anywhere-else goodies at the Vogue Knitting Live show in New York.  Let's see how I did:

a signed copy of Nicky Epstein's new book...

I really love this two-way capelet!

Blue Moon Fiber Arts mediumweight in colorway Rooster Rock.

The updated Knitter's Almanac, graciously signed by Meg Swansen, and, lastly,

A lovely tote to carry it all in.  A special tote.  With words.  About knitting.  Also signed by Meg.

How did I do?  I think I did well, plus, it all fit in my bag for the flight home!  By the way, I had an interesting experience in Newark Airport waiting to fly home to Denver.  A kind trio of women, who were also on their way home from the Vogue Knitting Live Event, identified me as a fellow knitter by my Linen Stitch Scarf, and invited me to join them for dinner.  Typically, I don't eat dinner in the Newark Airport with complete strangers, but somehow, with knitters it's just different!
