Cover girl

by Phoebe
Who ever thought that I, little Phoebe Mouse, would be a "cover girl?" But here I am, on the cover of a book. I think being a model is quite fun. But you do have to sit very very still so the artist (my father) can do a good job on the drawings. I do have a comfortable place to sit while he draws me for the cover of the book, Phoebe's Sweater. Right now I am just in pencil on some thick Bristol paper. Soon, though, he will add some color and that is when it will get exciting! This is a fine way to spend the last day of 2009, getting ready for a new adventure in 2010!

Wednesday

In Father's studio

by Phoebe
Next to our house is father's studio where he draws and paints a lot. He has a lot of paper, paints, and colored pencils out there. There is a little desk for children, too, when they are in the mood to be creative like father. He is very busy drawing and painting the illustrations for a new children's book.

Tuesday

In which it all comes together

Today I went outside in my finished wool sweater. I sat by our cherry tree and watched the long blue shadows of trees and branches glide across the glittery snow. The sky was bright and blue above the empty trees while I stayed nice and warm in my handknit sweater.

Thursday

Cookies and a rick-rack apron

by Phoebe
This morning after breakfast mother and father made our favorite Christmas cookies which have been made in our family for generations. Like the toffee, they have a bit of butter in them, too! Mother was excited to have the house all clean and ready for guests once the baking was done. She then had time for a favorite activity, which is an afternoon at her sewing machine. Today she made some last-minute gifts for my cousins- some sweet dress and apron sets for their dolls. When she was finished sewing, it was fun to try them on. This dress and apron are a perfect fit for me, too! Afterward, I enjoyed a nice little peaceful moment looking at the bright snow outside our window. I love winter.

Wednesday

All she wants for Christmas...

by Phoebe
Today my mother got an interesting present for Christmas. It was an important e-mail with something in it called an ISBN number. I am not really sure what this means for a grown-up but mother sure was happy to get it this year "for Christmas." Here I am with her in her office. Also, she made her famous toffee for a special treat this year. It has a lot of butter and sugar in it, so it must be good!

Monday

My very first outing

by Phoebe
Today I went on my very first outing with mother and couldn't believe how many rolls of ribbon, spools of thread, and bolts of fabric I saw! Of course, the store also had cards and cards of buttons, and I got to pick out my very own buttons for my new knitted jacket. I chose some sweet and simple wooden buttons which look very pretty.

Saturday

I'll Be Home for Christmas

by Phoebe
There is quite a bit of "making" going on around here this week. Mother is making Christmas gifts and treats, the children have made gingerbread houses and are eager to make candy, and father has been out in his studio a lot lately making some interesting drawings. I am glad mother found time to finish making me, in good time to enjoy celebration, treats, music, and fun with our friends and family.

Friday

Doesn't my dress look nice?

by Phoebe
Here is my new eyelet dress hanging on the line against a deep blue winter sky. I wonder when I will get to try it on?

Thursday

My wardrobe is crafted

by Phoebe
My mother is busy making me some clothes to wear. My winter sweater coat just needs sleeves and a hood. I hope she picks out some special buttons for it!

Saturday

I am almost finished

by Phoebe
Today is an exciting day for my mother as she is almost done making me. I am waiting for my other ear and for my arms and legs to be stuffed. I think I need a face, too. My big sister asks to play with me every day, but mother says I am not ready just yet. Soon I will have a new dress and warm woolen jacket to keep me cozy on these cold winter days. I can't wait to be finished and join in the adventures of my family and friends.
